Hace años que la escuché en una versión de Los Imposibles, en un recopilatorio de la oleada mod española de los 90. Como la melodía me era familiar indagué y me di cuenta de que, efectivamente, en alguna ocasión la había oído. Un tema tan soulero no pasa desapercibido. Los primeros en cantarla fueron los incombustibles Temptations. El último tema que hizo Smokey Robinson para ellos, allá por el 66, pero que no llegó a la altura del célebre My girl.

Eso sí, al principio de la siguiente década un grupo de soul funk llamado Rare Earth la llevó al éxito con una versión que sobrepasa los 20 minutos.
Y hace unos días, gracias a mi amigo Álvaro que me llevó a un almacén de cosas de segunda mano en Yuncos (casi nada) me encontré con ese vinilo del 72 con la versión íntegra, no la de 3 minutos que grabaron para comercializar.
Tremenda, sobre todo esta noche en la que me tengo que preparar (get ready!) para pasar tres días de excursión con alumnos de 14. Hormonas en estado puro.
El soul siempre viene bien para dar fuerzas.
